Xilinx and Barco Silex the single chip JPEG2000 encoder and decoder solutions. The encoder and decoder solutions sustain the high encoding requirements of digital cinema initiative (DCI) formats including 2048 x 1080 and 4096 x 2160 resolutions with up to 48 frames per second, and broadcast formats including 1080i and 1080p. The decoder chip solution replaces up to twelve separate ASSP chips. System developers further benefit from the capacity and flexibility of Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGAs with the ability to add encryption or watermarking functionality…
Barco Silex has developed and implemented JPEG2000 hardware cores since 2002. For enhanced security, Barco Silex' IP portfolio also includes crypto cores such as advanced encryption standard (AES) and public key crypto engines. As a custom electronic design house, Barco Silex can also provide integration design support as well as chip and board solutions.

Xilinx announced that intoPIX, a provider of JPEG2000 solutions, will port its IP portfolio to Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGAs.
The intoPIX JPEG2000 encoding algorithm running on a Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA, allows encoding at up to 120 frames-per-second (fps), over 20 percent faster than previous solutions. This creates the potential to create a multi-stream encoder delivering up to four channels of HD-SDI image management at 30 fps. Xilinx Virtex-5 devices support all relevant video interfaces including HD-SDI and ASI, while offering built-in PCI Express(R) endpoint and Gigabit Ethernet blocks, ideal for addressing the challenging bandwidth, power and cost targets of the broadcast industry. The intoPIX implementation of a JPEG2000 encoder and codec on a single Virtex-5 FPGA still leaves available logic for additional functionality. This can be designed by the customer, or selected from the Xilinx or intoPIX IP portfolios.
About intoPIX
intoPIX develops and markets handling tools for large data stream with intrinsic high value with special regard to pictures having value in their quality, security and authoring rights. Based in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, intoPIX was established in 2005 following a decision taken in 2001 by the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL) to direct the activities of its Electronic, Cryptographic and Image Compression laboratories towards the provision of JPEG 2000 compression solutions. intoPIX's world leading competences include FPGA and software engineering, JPEG2000 image compression and symmetric-asymmetric security.
Additional information on the first successful implementation, a JPEG2000 encoder and codec is available to IBC attendees, intoPIX Stand 9.520, RAI Congress Centre, Amsterdam.
